How can we help children develop self-awareness and empathy?
While there is no secret that emotional intelligence is crucial for child development, it plays an important role in setting your child up to carry these skills into successful adulthood. As the child grows he/ she learns emotional intelligence at different rates.
Think about the last time you got into an argument with someone else because they did not understand how you felt. Same as adults’ children learn by doing, gaining experience.
Let them explore their inner selves through hands-on experience in the form of fun games. Here are some amazing games that boost childhood EQ- social awareness, self-management, active listening, and collaboration.
Ok, that sounds too classic!
Let’s explore the fun activities
Athletics– Most sports teach children how to work together and be part of a team. Fine motor skills, patience, and respect are also valuable lessons learned through sports.
Music– Learning an instrument can teach children about long-term accomplishments that can manifest through dedication, hard work and practice.
Language– We would all like to communicate better, and this is even easier to achieve if we could all learn a second language. Being an expat living in Dubai, learning a second language has been a great advantage for kids.
Art & Craft– Creativity through art & craft can lead to new ideas, discoveries and is the essence of real play. It is amazing to see kids how they can learn from being creatively involved daily.
Science or educational club– STEM is a wonderful thing for kids to learn. The topics open up their minds for the much-unexplored world and prepare them for the future.
Emotional intelligence begins to develop in the earliest years. All the small exchanges children have with their parents, teacher and with each other carry emotional messages.
